Florida Keys Snorkeling

The reefs reefs of the Florida Keys  and Bahamas are an unforgettable experience. Both Bahamas and Florida Keys snorkeling is a kaleidoscope no painter will ever duplicate. Exotic shapes (corals such as stag- and elkhorn, brain, tree and sea fans) and bizarre color displays (from more than 600 varieties of fish) create a living, breathing landscape. In the daytime, sunlight glimmers down through the azure water, brightening coral formations, darting fish and illuminating other vivid sea creatures. At night, a diver's vision is limited to the circle of his underwater lighting. This pool of artificial light amidst the surrounding blackness lends a surrealistic quality to the reef. It becomes a different, more mysterious creature.

Florida Keys snorkelingWhile our reefs caused hundreds of shipwrecks and sent Spanish doubloons, Aztec gold and Inca treasures to the bottom of the sea, our true treasures are the reefs themselves. The waters around our uncommon island are a National Marine Sanctuary created to protect North America's only living coral reef. The colors and formations are dazzling. Pillar, brain, elkhorn and staghorn coral, sea anemones, parrotfish and ornamental tropical fish. Even the impressive rays, barracudas and moray eels are as curious about you as you are about them. You don't have to be a Jacques Costeau to see this eighth wonder of the world. The reef is so close to the surface in many areas that you can see it from the bottom boat. Explore it with just a snorkel, dive mask and a pair of fins. Florida Keys snorkeling even in shallow depths will allow you to experience the true wonder of the reef.
